10 Cancer-Fighting Foods to Include in Your Diet

With the increasing rates of cancer on a global level, you are probably afraid of this deadly disease like millions of other people.

But one thing you can do to help prevent it is regulating your diet.  As many experts and scientists explain, minding your diet is one of the most effective strategies for preventing cancer.

Not only that this will prevent one of the risk factors for cancer-obesity, but it will also provide your body with antioxidants which are known to possess cancer-fighting properties.

We present you the foods to consume on a daily basis if you want to help prevent any type of cancer.

1. Garlic

According to many studies, people who eat more garlic have less chances of developing cancer as oppose to those who don’t eat this food. It has been shown that garlic is particularly helpful in prevention of stomach, esophagus, and colon cancer.

2. Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain a potent antioxidant called lycopene, which according to experts is excellent at fighting cancer. Tomatoes are beneficial for all, but especially for men as the lycopene content has been shown to successfully ward off prostate cancer. You may be surprised, but you can use the lycopene benefits more by consuming processed tomatoes such as sauces.

3. Berries

Blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and the other berries are rich in potent antioxidant which prevent the development of cancer cells, and their multiplying. Therefore, add as many berries as you can in your everyday diet.

4. Cruciferous Vegetables

Cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, and broccoli are all cruciferous vegetables. These vegetables contain compounds which can prevent cancer cells formation, and encourage their death.

5. Green Tea

You might love green tea already, but you will love it even more once you find out that it’s one of the best cancer-fighting foods. It includes catechins – antioxidants which protect healthy cells from free radical damage. Free radicals are molecules which can cause the development of cancer. Catechins are also included in black tea.

6. Turmeric

According to many studies, the active compound in turmeric, curcumin, lowers the risk of cancer. The American Cancer Society says that turmeric is capable of reducing certain tumors. There are plenty of different recipes and ways to include this cancer-fighting food in your diet.

7. Leafy Green Vegetables

Lettuce, spinach, mustard greens, kale, turnip greens, Swiss chard, and other leafy vegetables are great for preventing the development of cancer. They contain antioxidants which can limit the growth of some types of cancer cells.

8. Grapes

The skin of red grapes includes abundance of resveratrol. A lot of scientific studies have proven that this antioxidant prevents development and spreading of cancer cells. Besides eating red grapes, you can also drink red wine and grape juice to take advantage of resveratrol’s anti-cancer properties.

9. Beans

Besides the abundance of proteins, beans also contain plenty of antioxidants. Therefore, add red kidney beans and pinto beans in your diet to help prevent cancer. Moreover, beans contain abundance of fiber, a nutrient well-known to reduce the colorectal cancer risk.

10. Whole Grains

Whole grains like brown rice, wild rice, bulgur, oats, quinoa, barley, and buckwheat are rich in fiber and antioxidants. It has been shown that they are great at fighting colorectal cancer. Therefore, try to add these foods as much as you can in your everyday diet.
