The health of a woman is related to her menstrual cycles (periods). This is a claim that can be found in many Ayurvedic scripts. A proper menstrual cycle is not important only for pregnancy and conception.

This is a process that helps women to flush out the toxins from the system and according to Ayurveda, this process helps women to feel calm, and feminine and to connect to themselves during this period. However, the vast majority of women, and this is especially true for Western women, consider this process to be useless and they view menstruation as an obstacle to performing their everyday tasks.

Amla or Amalaki in the Sanskrit language is a very popular and tasty fruit that originates from India. Amla has been used for millennia as part of Ayurvedic practices. The word Amla means sour, but the deeper translation and meaning of the word Amlaki leads us to another more powerful meaning – immortality. This name comes as a result of Amla’s incredible healing properties.

How Should We Use Amla?

Many people recommend the use of Amlaki powder regularly, especially during the summer period to regulate the so-called pitta dosha, or the period when people feel increased sensitivity and negative energy that we usually feel during menstrual cycles.

During this cycle, it is extremely important, according to Ayurveda, to control and balance the Apana Vata – the downward flow. This specific type of dosha balances and controls the menstruation flow and it can be found in the lower part of the abdomen.

Amlaki or Amla is a great Ayurvedic herb to regulate the Apana Vata which leads to a regular and healthy (almost) pain-free menstrual cycle. It supports the uterus and boosts the reproductive health.

In addition, by using Amla as part of the diet, you provide five out of the six tastes or rasas present in Ayurveda. The only taste that is lacking is the salty taste. This helps in the best digestion and metabolism which eventually leads to balanced life energy or Ojas. The final result is optimal immunity and improved strength.

Ojas or balanced life energy, helps women’s health by making the skin smooth, improving eye vision, and mental stability (elimination of mood swings), and influencing the personality in a good way.

Why Should Every Woman Take Amla?

There is more than one good way to include Amla powder in your diet. For example, you can mix it with water and drink it. In addition, you can also use it to create a smoothie known as Blissful Nari Smoothie.
