You are probably frustrated when you wake up with puffy eyes and you have a big day ahead. This is one of the most common beauty problems which happens when the eyes start to swell.
And the reason for the swelling can be excessive physical stress, excessive crying, dermatitis, genetics, a change in the weather, hormonal changes in the body, allergic reaction, hangovers, sinus problems, lack of sleep, and a bad diet. Puffy eyes can make you look ill and tired.
However, you can take care of them with the following natural home remedies:
1. Hemorrhoid cream
This cream reduces wrinkles and quickly tightens puffy areas. A lot of models and performers have used it to reduce their puffy eyes. You can add some of your moisturizer before applying it if the smell is too strong for you. Apply the cream carefully to avoid getting it into your eyes.
2. Water
The simplest way to prevent puffy eyes is to drink enough water. If your body is well hydrated, water retention which can cause swelling of the under-eye area is less likely to happen. Moreover, water helps body in the elimination of toxins.
Consume minimum of 8 to 10 glasses of water per day to keep your body well hydrated. Along with this, you should lower the salt consumption to decrease the water retention in the body. Furthermore, avoid carbonated and caffeinated beverages as they dehydrate your body.
3. Avocado
Dark circles under the eyes usually appear as a result of tiredness. Cut a ripe avocado in slices, and place one under each eye. Another option is to make a paste of milk and ground almonds and to apply it under your eyes to lighten the dark circles.
4. Cold Spoons
A very simple and effective remedy for puffy eyes. Cold spoons will tighten up the skin in the area around the eyes and will offer relief to tired and puffy eyes as they relax the blood vessels.
Place 5 to 6 metal spoon in the refrigerator and allow them to cool for ten to fifteen minutes. Keep the rounded part of the cold spoon against your eye for couple of minutes. Once the spoon warms, leave it and take a new cold one.
5. Tea Bags
Both, black tea and green tea bags can help soothe your irritated and puffy eyes. The provide anti-irritant properties and can lower the swelling around the eyes. Moreover, these tea bags can relieve inflammation and redness.
Place two used green or black tea bags in the refrigerator for half an hour. Put the cold tea bags over your eyelids while you are in a lying position. Allow them to stay for 10-15 minutes. Do this several times a day.
6. Cucumbers
The astringent properties and enzymes contained in cucumbers lower the inflammation and tighten the skin. It will also help you eliminate dark circles and wrinkles around your eyes.
Slice this veggie into thick slices, and cool them in the refrigerator. After 10 minutes in the fridge, put the cold cucumber slices on your eyelids and hold them until they get warm, or about 10 minutes. Do this few times a day.
7. Teething Rings
Cool 2 gel-filled baby teething rings in the refrigerator. Once they become ice-cold, place them on your eyelids while you are lying, and keep them for 10 minutes. The cold will lower the puffiness and revitalize that area.
8. Egg Whites
You can get rid of your under-eye bags and prevent the appearance of wrinkles with the help of the skin-tightening properties of egg whites.
Separate 2 egg whites from the yolks, and whip them thoroughly until they have stiff consistency. Then, add several drops of witch hazel which is a natural astringent. Apply this mixture under your eyes with a brush or soft cloth, and let them dry for about 15 minutes. Do this treatment on a daily basis for several days.
9. Cold Water
Few splashes of ice-cold water will constrict the blood vessels and reduce the swelling. Another option is to fill a small bag with ice, to wrap it in a cloth and put it over your eyes. Repeat this as much times throughout the day as needed.
10. Potatoes
Potatoes are just as effective as cucumbers when it comes to puffy eyes. Potatoes help reduce the under-eye bags thanks to the anti-inflammatory properties in the present starch. You can also fade the dark circles under your eyes with this remedy.
Grate a medium-sized potato, previously peeled, washed, and dried. Take a clean cloth and put the shavings in it. Then, tie the cloth up, and put it over your eyelids. Keep it for a few minutes. Do this couple of times until the puffiness under your eyes subsides.
11. Salt Water
You can lessen the puffiness and swelling under your eyes with hot water and salt, as it will eliminate the fluid retention similarly to osmosis.
In a bowl with four cups of hot water (but not too hot), add half a teaspoon of salt. Soak wool eye pads or cotton balls in the saline water and put them over your eyelids. Allow them to stay for several minutes. You can repeat this for 15 to 20 minutes.
12. Strawberries
Strawberries contain alpha hydroxy acid which can make your skin look young and smooth, and lower your swelling and puffiness under your eyes. Cool several strawberries in the refrigerator for half an hour. Remove their tops, and cut them in thick slices. Place them under your eyes while lying, and keep them for few minutes.
13. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera contains vitamin E and antioxidants which effectively lower the puffiness around the eyes and prevent appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The gel from aloe vera reduces the swelling around the eyes as it improves the blood circulation and eliminates the fluids in this area.
Use pure aloe gera gel, or some other skin care product which has aloe vera gel or extraxt in its content. Be careful the gel doesn’t get in your eyes when applying it.
