Nowadays, depression has become one of the most common health conditions. It is a very complex disease that affects the emotional state of the mind. The head of the Mood Disorders Psychopharmacology Unit and professor of pharmacology and psychiatry at the University of Toronto explains that curcumin showed an effect on a few psychological systems which are involved in the causes of depression.

The Journal of Affective Disorders has published a recent study that presents the antidepressant properties of curcumin, investigated on 56 patients with major depressive disorders.

It was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial where Australian researchers noticed significant improvements in the curcumin group after the 4th week of the trial. The results were especially noticeable among atypical depression patients.

Ingredients:

  • 5-7 cm turmeric, ground (or turmeric powder)
  • Tamarind paste
  • 2 lemons
  • Honey
  • Water

Preparation:

Half fill a big pot with water and add the ground turmeric. Boil for around 20 minutes, and once the water gets marigold color, remove from heat. Strain, and put the turmeric water in a blender, together with the tamarind paste, and the freshly squeezed juice from 2 lemons.

Blend until you get the desired consistency. At last, add some honey to taste. Your antidepressant juice is now ready. Enjoy!
