It is any day easier to buy vegetables from the market, but growing them at home is anytime a better option as the benefits associated are many. It may require some time but has many advantages. It will not only save you money but also keep you healthy. You can do the growing indoors too; all you need to do is provide them with water and light.
These are the vegetables you will not need to buy from the market again:
1. Scallions
These can be grown utilizing the discarded roots. All that you need to do is leave a few inches of stallion attached to the root and then put it in a glass filled with water. They place the glass in a well-lighted room.
2. Garlic
Garlic cloves can be used to grow garlic sprouts. It has a mild flavor of garlic and can be used as an addition to salads, pasta, and even some other dishes. When the garlic begins to sprout, place it in some water.
3. Bok Choy
Put the root ends of Bok Choy in a glass filled with water in a well-lit room. Give it around 2 weeks then plant it in a pot with soil.
4. Carrots
You can get carrot greens from carrot tops. All you need to do is place carrot tops in a dish that has water, in a well-lit room. The carrot greens are a little bitter, but they can be utilized in the salads along with garlic.
5. Basil
New basil can be easily grown using basil cuttings. You just need to put the basil clippings with around 3 inches of stem in water and keep it in sunlight. When the roots turn 2 inches in length, you can easily transfer it to pots and these will grow to full plants in some time.
6. Celery
Chop off the base of celery and keep it in the sun. The leaves will begin to turn thick and will grow in some time. You can transfer it to soil after 3 days.
7. Romaine Lettuce
The bottom of the lettuce head can be used to grow Romaine lettuce. Keep the lettuce stumps in about half an inch of water. After a few days, transplant it to the soil once you see roots and new leaves coming. The same method can be used to grow cabbages.
8. Cilantro
If you wish to grow Cilantro, you can put its stems in water. You can transplant when the roots turn thick and long. In a few months, it will grow fully.
