Many people use Vicks VapoRub as an aid to their treatment of chest pains, colds, and fevers, and for many other reasons. However, did you know that it can also help weight loss and improve the look of some parts of your body?
In the ‘80s and ‘90s, a lot of spas started offering a new kind of therapy called wrap therapy, which helps losing weight and tightens the skin.
But now, we explain how to do this therapy in the comfort of your own home, using nothing but Vicks VapoRub and plastic wrap. First, you rub the ointment on the skin, and then you wrap the skin area with plastic wrap.
Wrap Therapy Benefits
1. Weight Loss
The active ingredient in Vicks VapoRub, camphor, is said to stimulate fat burning in some parts of the body.
Although the combination of this ointment with plastic wrap doesn’t cause fat loss, it sweats the part of the body causing water loss. Nevertheless, the result is the loss of weight.
Although the weight loss is temporary, one or two days, it is perfect if you want to lose that extra inch to fit into your favorite dress that’s been waiting for you for months. In the video below you can see how Danielle Stewart reduces her waist by an inch, only after 45 minutes of plastic wrap therapy using Epsom salt and vitamin E oil.
SpaFinder president Susie Ellis says she considers slimming wraps like a spray tan – something that’s temporary, but totally fine. However, make sure you stay hydrated while doing this therapy as your body loses water.

2. Cellulite Reduction
To use this therapy for reducing the appearance of cellulite and skin moisturizing, combine Vicks VapoRub with baking soda and rubbing alcohol.
3. Stretch Mark Reduction
Vicks VapoRub contains oils that can significantly reduce the appearance of stretch marks. The active ingredients and oils in the ointment can soften an overly stretched skin, reducing a dry appearance which makes the stretch mark noticeable. Nevertheless, no topical cream has been proven to provide this characteristic so far.
