There are lots of people who are scared of spiders and various insects, especially if they have big yards and see these pesky bugs quite often. There are many commercial spider and bug repellents, but not only that their potential is limited, but they are also packed with dangerous chemicals.

On the bright side, there is a natural way to repel them and finally fight your phobia of spiders.

Natural spider repellents are effective and chemical-free as opposed to the various over-the-counter products which might seem like the simplest way to solve this problem.

1. Citrus

It is generally known that spiders hate lemons and other citrus fruits. So, just rub some lemon or orange peels on areas where spiders usually appear, such as baseboards, or use lemon essential oil to prevent them from coming.

2. Cedar

Put cedar blocks in your closets, cupboards, and garden to repel spiders. There’s also the option to get cedar hangers to prevent spiders and moths from appearing anywhere near your clothes.

3. White Vinegar

Vinegar is widely used for keeping spiders, mosquitoes, and ants at bay. Mix vinegar and water in a 1:2 ratio, and pour the liquid into a spray bottle. In this way, you will prepare a natural spider-repellent spray and use it all around your home and garden.

4. Peppermint Essential Oil

You may love peppermint, but spiders hate it. Therefore, add 8 drops of peppermint oil to a little liquid dish soap, mix well, and add the solution to the water in your spray bottle. If you like a stronger smell, add 8 more drops of the essential oil. Before spraying the repellent around your house, shake the bottle well.

Another option is to mix peppermint and vinegar for an equally effective spider repellent.

5. Chestnuts (and other tree nuts)

Spiders can be kept at bay with the help of chestnuts, horse chestnuts, walnuts, and other tree nuts. These insects can’t stand a certain chemical in the nuts’ scent. Therefore, put a few chestnuts on the windowsills to solve the problem effectively and quickly.

6. Keep it clean!

To prevent these unwanted visitors from coming to your house, keep it absolutely clean. So, make sure your floors are well swept and vacuumed, and you can also make a seasonal declutter.

Don’t forget to clean your lawn and garden. Remove the sticks, leaves, and clippings from your lawn, and check your doors and window sills to see if they have some gaps. Those who live in an apartment should clean the windows and balcony on a regular basis.

These tips will definitely help you to keep spiders and other insects away from your home.
