Both curcumin and turmeric have become very popular in the past few years because of their strong anti-cancer properties. With the latest studies in this field, it is expected that these substance will increase their popularity because the studies suggest that curcumin and turmeric blocks cancer growth. The active ingredient in turmeric can stop the activity of an enzyme that stimulates the expansion and growth of neck and head cancer.
A team of researchers from the famous UCLA have confirmed that curcumin – the active and basic component found in turmeric which actually gives the distinctive yellow color of turmeric – has shown exceptional properties that prevent the growth of cancer. 21 people who were dealing with neck and head cancers were part of this scientific study and received 2 curcumin tablets (consumed by chewing). Each of the pills had about 1000 mg of curcumin. When the procedure was finished, the results were evaluated by an independent, reputed laboratory in Maryland.
How Turmeric Blocks Cancer Growth
The lab results have confirmed that the enzymes located in the mouths of patients that were supporting the growth of cancer were totally inhibited by the curcumin-based supplementation. In other words, the consumption of curcumin stopped the growth and expansion of malignant cells. Another scientific study has suggested that curcumin can reduce tumors for up to 81% which was another piece of evidence related to the anti-cancer properties of turmeric and curcumin.
The truth is that the majority of Americans are not aware of the health benefits of turmeric. On the other hand, turmeric has been used and praised for its medicinal properties in the Middle Eastern and South Asian countries for centuries. Dozens of different cultures have acknowledged the fact that this spice has the ability to improve overall health and they are using it as part of many dishes.
One of the best things about this exotic spice is that it is very inexpensive when we compare it with some cancer drugs that usually don’t lead to any improvement. As a matter of fact, in many cases they can make the situation worse and even lead to fatalities in patients. The good news is that many healthcare specialists have recognized the positive effects of curcumin and turmeric and hopefully these substances will find their place in our diets. If the trend continues, it is very likely that they will surpass the popularity of vitamin D.
