Many people will find this caterpillar the most adorable creatures they have ever seen.
Its fur resembles that of cat’s and their way of moving makes them irresistible.
Nevertheless, no matter if it’s the sweetest creature you have ever seen, you mustn’t touch it!
The name of this creature is puss caterpillar, due to its fur, and right under that irresistible fur, numbers of poisonous barbs are ready to attack.
This type of caterpillar is the most poisonous in America, and it can be found in the southeastern parts of America, as far west as Missouri, and up to Maryland.
Even though its poison can’t cause extreme pains, the sting is more painful than that of a jellyfish, wasp, and some scorpions.
Stung by this caterpillar will cause the following symptoms: waves of intense pain, a rash with raised ridges, itchy or swelling skin, anxiety or restlessness, vomiting, fever, swollen glands, muscle cramps, or some shock-related symptoms.
In case you are being stung by a pus caterpillar, experts recommend using a piece of tape to remove the barbs, and medical attention.
This type of caterpillar spends most of its time on tall branches on trees so we are lucky.
However, sometimes they do want to move away from the trees and “explore” some new grounds, which is why we should be extra cautious when we walk through tall grass or under tree branches.
