You probably love when your clothes smell fresh and nice, but have you heard that fabric softener producers include harmful ingredients in their content? These ingredients are said to be especially harmful to kids. According to experts, commercial softeners are not that health-friendly, as they cause allergies. So the next time you think of buying a fabric softener, think about the old saying “If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin”. Softeners can cause severe damage inside the body by entering it through the skin. That’s why you should stop using chemical-laden softeners when washing your clothes. Producers add phthalates to provide the scent, but according to studies, these chemicals are disrupting the balance of hormones in animals, so fabric softeners are harmful to the environment too. You can now understand why it’s important to avoid commercial softeners. Instead, make your own natural softener from easily available and inexpensive ingredients like water, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, and essential oil.

Required Ingredients:

  • 150-200 ml of hot water
  • 10g of baking soda
  • 20 drops of essential oil
  • 800 ml of apple cider vinegar

Instructions:

Mix the water, apple cider vinegar, and baking soda in a big plastic container, 3 to 5 liters, as they will cause a bubble reaction. Add your favorite essential oil, close the container, and shake well. When you see the mixture “settles”, transfer it to a jar that will be your softener tank. One more tip: Shake the homemade fabric softener prior to every use, and use 4 tbsp. for one wash of clothes. Via My Green Closet | Happy Money Saver
