So, you have finally decided to get involved in gardening. This is certainly a wise move because gardening is fun and useful. If you are new to this, we will present ten crops that are easy and simple to grow and on top of that, they taste great!

1. Basil

Basil is a great herb that is usually added to sauces and salads. Grow it in a location that gets enough sun and watch its progress. The soil must be drained well and the temperature in the soil and outside should be relatively warm. This plant needs at least six hours of exposure to the sun per day. Use hot water to water basil and prune it whenever you notice it needs pruning.

2. Chives

Chives taste delicious in sandwiches, on potatoes, and in different salads. Chives are perennial plants that return each year and they are known for the attractive lavender bloom which usually occurs in the middle or at the end of spring. Collect chives about one month after transplanting or two months after seeding. Even though they can thrive in limited shade, it is the best idea to plant them in a sunny place. Use soil that is drained well and water it regularly.

3. Dandelion

Dandelion is a plant praised for its nutritional value. Fresh dandelion leaves can be used in salads while mature leaves are best when they are wilted. Even the dried root of this plant is useful and it is often used as a coffee alternative.

4. Egyptian Walking Onions

This plant with an interesting name represents a perennial that expands below ground level or with the help of bulblets sprouted during the summer period. The bottoms of these onions have the shape and dimensions of leeks and taste very similar to white onions. In addition, you can use the tops of Egyptian walking onions as chives. They can thrive in soil that is moist and drained well. Egyptian walking onions can withstand cold winters and they will bloom among the first pants in spring. Even though they are fond of sun exposure, they can thrive in almost any area regardless of the weather.

5. Garlic

Garlic is usually planted in autumn, but you should feel free to plant it in spring. As we are all aware this veggie is used in many different meals and it is known for the many health benefits it brings. Plant it in a location that is exposed to the sun and in loamy soil.

6. Green Beans

Green beans usually come in two forms – vine or bush. They will make good progress if you give them a trellis so they can climb up. Harvest green beans every once in a while in order to help them grow more. They are fond of warm and well-drained soil. Green beans require sun exposure, so find such a location in your garden.

7. Lettuce

Lettuce will make any garden more attractive, but it will also enrich your meals. In case you choose adequate varieties of this plant, you will be able to grow them even in summer. What is important is to maintain moisture in the soil when the temperatures are high. This is the time when you can harvest the plant for many days in case you gather only the bottom leaves. In case the plant starts blooming use the seeds for replanting.

8. Mustard

It turns out that growing mustard is super easy. Our recommendation is to use the Giant Red variety. This is one of the varieties that grow first in spring and it seeds on its own. Mustards make good progress when the weather is cooler and requires about two inches of water on a weekly basis.

9. Peas

Peas start growing and expanding when the soil is ready to be worked and as we are all aware peas taste great in dishes and salads. A soil rich in humus and drained well is ideal for peas. Don’t water them too much.
