When someone talks about exercises, we usually visualize exercises that are focused on our legs, arms, chest, and stomach. However, exercises can be beneficial for all of our body parts and organs including our eyes. Now let’s see how exactly exercise can help our eyesight.

Eyesight Routine

Recent research conducted by researchers from Emory University and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Atlanta has confirmed that exercise can be very helpful for eyesight, especially for people who are trying to slow down the negative effects of the process of aging. The researchers have used lab mice to perform a few series of experiments. They have divided the mice into two separate groups. The first group of mice was left without any physical activity while the other group was encouraged to exercise on specially designed small treadmills for about 60 minutes a day. After 15 days the group that was physically active was exposed to bright light for about four hours a day, while the group that was inactive was placed in cages with small amounts of light. This type of exposure to light is often used in experiments that lead to degeneration of the retina in lab animals. After the experiment was finished, the scientists confirmed that the inactive mice experienced problems with their vision.  About 2/3 of the neurons used for detection of light found in the retina were dead. This study confirms that regular exercise can improve eyesight and reduce the chances of macular degeneration. Of course, this theory is still not tested on humans, but this study should inspire and motivate you to start exercising as soon as possible. Source: WellnessBin
