Health and Environmental Benefits of Vegetarian Diet

It is proven fact that people who aren’t on a vegetarian diet are significantly healthier than those consuming meat in their nutrition.

The probability for vegetarians to be fat and have high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis or colon cancer is smaller. The risk of death from heart disease is smaller too.

Benefits of Vegetarian Diet

Vegetarian diet contains a lot of facts that contribute to better health. Vegetarians have lower blood pressure although they consume same salt amounts as the ones eating meat or exercising less. Many researches have proven that vegetarians are less susceptible to colon cancer because of the presence of bacterial flora in the colon.

Vegetarians consume 2 to 3 times more fiber than meat-eaters, which has proven their reducing of cholesterol and regulation of blood glucose level. Fiber are prevention for the appearing of colon cancer.

They also consume more antioxidants found in the plant food. It protects cells from damaging and oxygen deficiency which lowers the risk of arthritis, heart disease, cancer and other diseases.

Vegetarians eat more isoflavones then meat-eaters. These compounds are a type of phytochemical found in soy foods. The researches have shown that they lower the risk of prostate cancer and improve bone health.

Vegetarian diet procures significantly lesser saturated fat and cholesterol than with meat-eaters resulting in significantly low level of blood cholesterol. It means lowering of heart disease and preventing appearing of diabetes and cancer. Also, because vegetarians don’t consume meat, they aren’t susceptible to heme iron – a type of iron found in the meat, which increase the risk of heart disease and cancer.
