Concerns over possible contamination with Listeria are the reason why Sabra Dipping Co. decided to recall some hummus products produced before November 8, 2016.
Time that the contamination wasn’t found in the tested finished products, but at the manufacturing facility.
The products were distributed to food service accounts and supermarkets throughout U.S. and Canada.
The company stated their reason for recalling the product on their official website – out of an abundance of caution.
The foodborne illness Listeria is caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause nausea and high fever.
It can cause migraines in pregnant women, and the infection can be so serious that can even cause death in young children and people with weakened immune system.
People with good immune system will have the following Listeria symptoms: severe headaches, high fever, abdominal pain, nausea, stiffness, and diarrhea.
Sabra Dipping Co. urged their consumers to get rid of any product with “Best Before” date, found on the lid as presented on the image below, up through January 23, 2017.

The following products haven’t been recalled: Sabra Salsa, Sabra Organic Hummus, Sabra Greek Yogurt Dips, and Sabra Guacamole. This PepsiCo and Strauss Group recall is not their first one. Sabra recalled 30,000 products in April 2015, because of possible contamination with the same bacteria – Listeria. There were no reported illnesses however.
