You have probably heard that lemon is a popular fruit for general health and beauty routines, but did you know that many people also place lemons on the nightstand and around the home as part of an old folk tradition about energy?

In many cultures, people believe that negative energy can dull the atmosphere in the home and influence mood, prosperity, and relationships. Most of us are taught to be rational and to believe only in things we can understand and confirm.

However, some rituals and customs are not meant to be explained by logic. They are traditions, and there is no scientific proof behind them.

In this post, we talk about positive and negative energies, something that not many people believe in. In folk tradition, lemon is one of the things said to neutralize negative energy and bring back a sense of harmony.

Some traditions also connect this fruit with good fortune in money matters.

The idea is simple: put a lemon in a place in your everyday surroundings where you spend most of your time. Many people enjoy its fresh aroma, and in folk belief it is seen as an ally against negative energy. For this, you will need just green lemons.

According to tradition, green lemons can be used in different ways, including the following:

  • The simplest way is to place 3 green lemons in different locations in your home. Once they turn yellow or black, throw them away and replace them with fresh green lemons.
  • Boil the lemon peel in rainwater to make use of its vapors. If the lemon is really small, some people even carry it as a talisman. Whichever option you choose, the belief is that the green lemon absorbs the negative energy in your surroundings and helps you feel calm and safe.
  • Put 9 lemons in a basket or a clay/ceramic bowl on a bed of rice, and keep it above the fridge. Place one lemon in the center of the bowl/basket and the other 8 around it. In folk belief, this is a symbol of wealth.
  • As a symbol of protection from envious colleagues, some people put 3 lemons in their desk drawer or purse to help them keep their balance.
  • Mix some lemon juice with water in a spray bottle and sprinkle the solution around your home, especially in the corners. It leaves a fresh scent, and tradition says it turns negative energy into positive.
  • To attract love into your life, the custom is to put 3 lemons in a glass vase or a bowl and place them on your nightstand. Once the lemons turn yellow or black, replace them with fresh ones.

To let go of the negative vibes of the day, tradition suggests cutting a lemon into 4 pieces and putting them on a plate to form a cross. Make a circle of coarse salt around the lemon pieces and put the plate under your bed before bedtime. If you can’t put the plate there, put it near the bed, by the wall or on the floor. The next day, put the pieces of lemon in a plastic bag, making sure you don’t touch them, and throw the bag away outside your home.

The custom is to repeat this for at least 3 days in a row. Some people say they feel calmer and in a better mood afterward, although experiences differ from person to person.

Another custom is to put a green lemon in your purse or in the pocket of your jacket or pants. In the evening, take the lemon out, which will be dried by then, and throw it away. The next morning, take a new lemon and carry it with you throughout the day. In folk belief, it absorbs the bad vibes around you and leaves you calm and safe.
