A “Thrillist” journalist decided to drink a gallon of water every day for one month, as an experiment to see if there would be any changes in how he felt and in his life in general.
He ended up being quite surprised by what he noticed.
He kept notes during his 30-day journey, and in this post, we share his story. Keep in mind that this is one person’s experience, and results vary from person to person.
1st Day – Let the Party Begin
The man got a gallon plastic bottle, as he had no idea how many glasses were in a gallon. Looking at this huge bottle of water, he knew it was not going to be an easy task at all. Nevertheless, he was fully determined to achieve this goal, to the point that he could hardly concentrate on anything else. He carried his huge water bottle with him everywhere.
5th Day – Urinating Every 20 Minutes
Although the human body is about 60% water and needs water daily, a gallon a day is much more than most people usually drink. To manage this amount in one day, you have to drink even when you are not thirsty, so practically all the time throughout the day. This made him feel full most of the time, his appetite was reduced, and he started eating less. In addition, he felt a constant need to urinate and had to visit the toilet about every 20 minutes.
10th Day – Feeling Better
He recalls how he used to need a cup of coffee in the morning to help him start the day. Now, he woke up feeling fresh and energized, without the need for coffee. Moreover, he started noticing changes in his appearance and felt better about how he looked. He felt that his hair and skin had become shinier. Although it was hard for him to carry the bottle of water with him everywhere, and some people found it odd, his determination to succeed was greater.
15th Day – Feeling Full of Energy
The man said he felt refreshed. He used to drink three or more cups of coffee per day, but now he didn’t feel the need for it, so this was quite a big change for him. Furthermore, he said he slept better and felt a bit quicker. His body started adapting to his new routine, so he felt thirsty if he hadn’t had water for a while.
20th Day – Receiving Compliments
The persistent journalist, who still had to go to the toilet very often, noticed that his urine had become very clear. His girlfriend complimented him on his clearer skin and his increased energy. He felt happy and satisfied, and he got used to drinking large amounts of water.
30th Day – Clean and Free
He still needed to urinate all the time, and on the last day of his experiment, the journalist felt thirsty much of the time. Although he admits that a gallon of water daily is a bit too much, he adds that he doesn’t plan to give up his new habit of drinking more water. The reason is the many positive changes he felt during the experiment.
The most important thing is to find the proper amount of water for your own body. A gallon a day is not right for everyone, and drinking too much water can be harmful, especially for people with kidney or heart conditions. If you are not sure how much you should drink, ask your doctor.
