How To Clean Your Toilet Naturally Using DIY Toilet Cleaning Bombs

It turns out that many commercial bathroom cleaning products are loaded with potentially dangerous ingredients like bleach for example which is harmful for our lungs. Bleach comes with high amount of chlorine and if this compound is mixed with any type of acid the final result is horrifying – you’ll get a very toxic gas.

In addition, this compound has corrosive and irritant effects and disintegrates all the things it reaches.

Most of these toilet cleaning products contain hydrochloric acid (up to 50%) and studies has shown that if we breathe in this acid we can expect respiratory tract irritation and kidney problems.

As you probably know, there are bathroom cleaners that come with special fragrances and these fragrances has been associated with irritation of the lungs, headaches and allergic reactions. Some of them can cause hormone misbalance. In other words, it is a good idea to stay away from these products.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should stop cleaning your bathroom. In this article we will show you how to make a homemade, safe toilet bowl cleaner. Just follow the instructions.

Things you’ll need:
  • Half a cup of baking soda
  • Half a cup of citric acid
  • Half a cup of cornstarch
  • 25 drops of essential oil – people can use whatever essential oil they like, but experts say that lemon and orange essential oils are better because they smell good and they are effective too.
  • Zip-top bag (gallon size)
  • Spray bottle filled with water
  • Molds
Preparation:

Take all the ingredients (leave the essential oils) and place them in the zip-top bag. Shake this bag well. After that, open the bad and pour three spritzes of tap water. Next, close the bag and knead. Perform this procedure 5-6 times. In case the bag shows signs of puffiness, release some of the air. This puffiness is a result of the interaction between baking soda and citric acid.

Next, knead this cleaning mixture until it turns into something that resembles pie dough, pour the essential oil/s and start kneading it one more time. After that, put it in the molds and wait for a few days until they become dry.

Once two day pass, take them from the molds and place the content to dry for a few more days. Next, put the content in a container that is well sealed.

Whenever you want to use these “bombs” just put them in the bowl and wait until they start fizzing. At that moment start using the scrub brush and clean the surface. After a minute or two flush and the toilet bowl will look as good as new.
