Make Your Own Ginger Powder at Home

In order to prepare this ginger powder, you need a food processor, coffee or spice grinder. One of these kitchen tools will turn the ginger root into fine ginger powder, ready to dissolve into ginger tea. In this way, you will save a lot of time and you won’t need to have a fresh ginger at any time.

However, you must do one thing before you turn the ginger into ginger powder. You have to dry it up. If you have one, you can use a dehydrator. This is often found in the kitchens of those who prefer dehydrated nuts. Do not worry if you do not have such dehydrator. You can place some ginger slices under the sun in order to dry.

This homemade product can last from 8-12 weeks. For a longer shelf life it’s of crucial importance to place the powder into airtight container and store it on a cool and dry place. You can use this ginger powder not only for tea preparation but for everything where ginger can be used.

Follow these steps and you will prepare a ginger powder on your own.

1.Peel the Ginger Root

Take some fresh organic ginger root. First wash it well under running water. Then peel the tough skin by a small knife or a peeler.

2.Chop the Ginger Up

When peeled, chop the fresh ginger into thin slices. This will enable a quick drying without the use of dehydrator or some sun-drying.

Other people cut up the ginger into small pieces because they find them easier to grind in the coffee or spice grinder. How would you chop the ginger, depends merely on your preference.

3.Dry the Ginger Slices Thoroughly

Place the ginger slices on a rack and store them in the dehydrator for a few hours until they are completely dry.

If you do not have a dehydrator, simply arrange the slices on a rack and place them under direct sunlight. After a while, make sure to turn them over so that both sides are perfectly dehydrated.

4.Grind the Ginger Slices

The hard and dry ginger slices are perfect and ready for grinding into powder. For this purpose, you need a coffee or spice grinder or a food processor. Do not stop the process until all of the ginger slices turn into a fine powder.

If they were hard for grinding, store the ginger root slices into the fridge for a few hours. When frozen, grind them. Much easier, isn’t it?

5.Store the Powder in a Container

When completely processes, store you ginger powder in a clean and air-tight container. You do not need to place it in the fridge, just store it in a cool and dry place.
